Blue-collar red and white get starter wine

The other night, I drove 70 miles, roundtrip, to buy a bottle of $2.99 wine. And now I can say that I, too, have tried Two-Buck Chuck. Admittedly, I am late to the party; many others have already bought into the craze, including someone I know who proudly served the wine at her wedding not long ago. Millions of bottles of the wine have apparently been snapped up.

Wine has a bit of a reputation, the swirling, sniffing and spitting, the need to describe its "fruity notes". So how can the Wine Industry appeal to the younger drinkers?

First there's the intimidation of choice. Which wine would they like? What does varietal mean? How can I tell a good wine when there are 45 different types to choose just in the grocery store?

Not everyone is going to research before they enter into the shop to purchase wine. So how can the Wine Industry appeal to younger (legal) drinkers and clear up some of the mysteries surrounding wine?

Wine Pairing: What To Drink With Blue Cheese-Topped Burgers

There are as many different kinds of burgers as there are burger obsessives, and we sometimes have trouble choosing a favorite. Considering the delicious beefiness of the Black Label at Minetta Tavern, the juiciness of the burger at Grüner in Portland, Oregon, and the delectable crust on the diner-style cheeseburgers at Angelo's in Flint, Michigan, can you really blame us? But when you're choosing a wine pairing, you must consider one burger at a time.

Sipping and skating

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. — Nothing goes better with wine than... skating?

A growing number of Niagara wineries have added outdoor rinks to their winter roster of tourist attractions.

At Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery, a new 24-by-12 metre ice rink with lighting for nighttime skating has quickly become a big draw for locals and visitors.

Paul Harber, chef proprietor, said the winery is trying to fill a void in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Growing up in the area, Harber frequented five area outdoor rinks. They're no longer around today, he said.
